Peplum Tops: I absolutely adore all things peplum. I love how classy they look, and how they can be dressed up or down. This top is a go to for me throughout the fall… More
Breathe… if I had a dollar for every time that word rolled through my head I would be a millionaire. But, it’s not doing me much good just rolling on through.
This summer a group of ladies from my church got together for a women’s bible study, we chose to go through Priscilla Shirer’s study “Breathe” and I have to admit, I didn’t think it was going to apply to my life at all.
It’s about Sabbath Margin, and growing up in a Christian home I know what the sabbath is, or at least I thought I did. But after five weeks of digging deeper into God’s word I realized that I was truly clueless.
Priscilla discuses throughout the book the importance of placing margin in your life and I didn’t realize that I needed it until I was asked about what consumes me daily. It’s different for everyone, but my number one answer was: the opinions of other people, both those that I am close with and that I do not know.
After admitting that I felt a huge flood of relief and concern wash over me. I was relieved because I finally admitted it, but then the concern came in as I realized I had been placing the opinions of others over the opinion of God.
I am created by God, for a specific purpose and that’s what should matter the most to me. I shouldn’t worry about if my “friend” thinks what I’m doing is weird or if there’s a family member who just doesn’t understand the path I chose for my life. I don’t need to worry about whether or not that girl I passed at the grocery store liked my hair or not. I am HIS! I belong to HIM.
Five weeks into this study I finally realized why God placed it in my life. Margin for me isn’t about how I’m budgeting my time, it’s all about my priorities. It’s about putting God back on top, taking Him out of the margins and placing Him in the center of everything I do. When I do that, then I can truly say that I have Sabbath Margin in my life.
Have I mastered this yet? Absolutely not. I’m human, and like anything it’s going to take time. But I have found that others opinions are bothering me a lot less than they used to. I found my worth, and it’s not in my money, or my clothes or my family and friends. It’s in God and yours is too!
If you are constantly feeling overwhelmed, I highly recommend going through this study. If you have questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

One style that I didn’t understand was the Off the Shoulder Tops..at least not until I got one.
I bought this shirt the day before Easter when I started freaking out because I had NOTHING to wear (haha), I saw one of the girls that works at my favorite boutique, that cute little shop, wearing it and instantly fell in love.
I love how easy it is to style, and if you’re needing something a little more modest you can wear it without pulling it down off the shoulders and it looks just as cute.
Im also obsessed with the hi-low detail because I like for my tops to cover my bottom, I also think it gives it a classy, Whimsical look to make the off the Shoulder work for any occasion.
For Easter I paired it with some pastel pink pants, but as I’m transitioning in to fall I decided to go with dark wash jeans and my favorite blush colored flats.
What are some of your favorite off the Shoulder tops for fall? I’m definitely going to be getting more.
My go to piece for the transition from summer to fall is this oversized lightweight sweater I got from one of my favorite boutique last year, unfortunately this one isn’t available anymore but THIS one is and I think I’m going to have to purchase it for myself as well.
Anyway, when I saw this piece I wasn’t sure I would like it, but it quickly became my favorite!
I love that it’s loose, so I don’t feel like my clothes are sticking to me, and the sleeves are super lightweight, so I don’t feel like I am going to roast all day.
I typically wear this top with skinny jeans (whatever color you want) and either brown sandals or flats. I like to add color in since the sweater is neutral and these flats from Gap are super comfortable, And they’re available in multiple colors. I am also obsessing over these sandals from target and since my favorite ones just broke I’ll be investing in them for myself.
You can also add a pop of color to this outfit with a necklace, like I’ve done here, or a scarf. During the fall and winter I will typically add a chunky scarf. Or you can keep it neutral by throwing on some pearls and calling it a day.
Show me some of your favorite transitional outfits below!

Most days I choose to be comfortable, so when Top Knot Boutique got this shirt I HAD to have it. Also, elephants are really in right now, so it’s a win win.
What really won me over with this shirt was the high-low detail, I like shirts that cover my bottom, especially when I’m wearing them with leggings.
I’ve worn this shirt at least 5 times since I got it, sometimes with jeans, but my favorite way was with Capri leggings and my converse, I chose grey but they’d also look cute with this maroon color, or just black!
The best part is that this top will not break the bank, so if you’re on a budget like I am it’s a must have! It’s super soft, and the quality is AMAZING!
Head on over to Top Knot Boutiques Instagram page and check out the other pattern you can get this top in, let them know Ashleigh sent you!
Summer is such a crazy time and finding the extra time to eat healthier is near impossibly for me. So when my grandma sent me this recipe I knew it would be one that would stick around.
I love how light it is, while still being filling and FULL of flavor! Great for a day by the pool, or to scarf down before going out to run errands!
For this recipe you will need:
1 Can of Black eye peas (drained and rinsed)
1 Can of Black Beans (drained and rinsed)
1 Can of chick peas (optional)
2 Cups of corn ( I use frozen and roast it in the skillet before, you can also use canned)
1 red pepper — diced
1/4 cup fresh chopped cilantro
6 tbs wine vinegar
6 Tbs olive oil
2 tbs lime juice (optional — but so good)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tsp dried oregano
1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
1.) Rinse and drain all the beans –add to bowl and mix together
2.) you can either warm the corn in the microwave or roast on skillet.. or you can just add it straight into the bowl! It’s personal preference
3.) add in diced pepper and chopped cilantro
4.) add red wine vinegar, olive oil and lemon juice — stir!
5.) add in seasonings — stir and ENJOY!
REFRIGERATE THE LEFTOVERS!
My favorite ways to eat Texas Caviar:
1.) as a dip with corn tortilla chips
2.) on top of tacos in place of salsa (use corn tortillas to make it gluten free)
3.) by itself! This is the typical way I’ll eat it, especially when I’m in a hurry just throw it in a bowl and go.
I hope you enjoy this recipe! Let me know if you try it!

Life is tough, Y’all! But I’ve began to realize that I don’t have to allow that to make everyday be a “bad” day. That’s right, I said “I don’t have to allow” want to know why? Because I’m in control of my attitude, my thoughts, what I deem as important and irrelevant.
I’ve realized that there are a few things I can do to set myself up to have a good day. This doesn’t mean that nothing bad or frustrating is going to happen, it just means that I’m taking away the things that stressed me out so much that when something tiny didn’t go as planned I would explode!
The 10 habits I’ve gotten into that really help get my mind ready for each day.
1.) DON’T hit snooze! — this one is SO hard for me. I am the furthest thing from a morning person, but I realized the more I hit snooze, the more time I wasted, which resulted in me being stressed out about there not being enough time in the day.
2.) Make your bed — I thought this was just a teeny tiny, insignificant detail that didn’t make a difference until I started making my bed everyday. There’s just something about a made bed that makes me feel like I have my life together – at least for a few minutes. Haha
3.) Get out of your Pajamas — the longer I stay in my pajamas, the longer it takes for me to actually wake up. I cannot tell you how many times I would make my bed, just to fall back asleep because I wasn’t dressed. You can even just put on comfy clothes, but whatever you do, GET OUT OF THE JAMMIES.
4.) Read your Bible — I cannot stress enough how important this step is. Don’t read it just to cross it off your to do list though.. dig into it, plant your feet in His word so that He is the one guiding you throughout your day.
5.) Spend time in prayer — it’s not enough to just read the word, pray over it! Ask God to help you live out His word every. Single. Day. He’ll help, you just have to ask. This will help you handle life in a Christ like manor rather than a worldly manner.
6.) WORKOUT — it doesn’t have to be super intense. You could even just stretch! But do something to get your body moving, I promise you’ll thank me for this tip later.
7.) PICK A SONG — you’re probably like why?! But really, do this for a week and just notice how much better your days are. Pick ONE song to listen to EVERY morning after you workout. Make it one that speaks to you, for me currently it’s How Can it Be? By Lauren Daigle. This just rejuvenates me after working out, and reminds me that I have a purpose.
8.) Eat a good breakfast — Breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day, if you don’t have enough time to fix breakfast every morning find a good protein shake, one that will actually keep
You full. You can find my favorite one here, (it comes in chocolate and vanilla and doesn’t have that weird chalky taste). — you can either purchase this at wholesale, justbagree to try something from the company for three months, or retail!
9.) Get Ready for the Day — I’ve used this phrase a lot, but by this I mean if you wear makeup, put your makeup on, fix your hair (even if it’s just a messy bun). You don’t have to get dressed to the nines, but you’re going to feel better and be more energized if you put on clothes you love, and if you feel taken care of.
10.) Tell yourself You’re going to have a good day — your mind controls a lot. So feed it positivity. Don’t walk out the door saying “well, guess it’s another day..” NO! Walk out the door saying, (and I mean saying, out loud!) “it’s a beautiful day, no matter what comes my way, I’ve got this.”
BONUS: Get in bed at a reasonable time — sleep is so important, as cliche as that sounds. But a few nights of good solid sleep and you’re going to feel like a completely different person!
None of these are going to keep “hard days” away. But they will help make them a little more manageable.
Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed!

Summer is always crazy hot for me here in Kentucky, so I can only imagine how bad it gets even further south. A staple in my summer wardrobe is a black maxi. I decided to pair it with a chambray top tied instead of buttoned, that way I felt like I had done more than thrown a dress on and walked out the door.
I felt like the Chambray Top added enough to the dress that it was great to wear to church, or even to a picnic or other event. It’s also on sale at Old Navy for $15!!
As for the shoes, I am OBSESSED with flats, they literally work with anything! So when I found these at Target for just $16 I had to have them and you will see me wearing them frequently! They come in a lot of different colors and I plan on going back to get at least one pair in every basic color the. Have. Here I’m wearing the blush shade but you could also wear black!
DISCLAIMER: I did size up half a size in these so they would be a little more comfortable when my feet swell from the heat.
